DIGITAL TUNE DELIVERY
The tune itself is delivered by email. No physical tune is shipped, and no tracking number is expected.
- Your calibration file and applicable flashing instructions are sent to the email address used at checkout.
- Complete the Tune Configurator for the car exactly as it will be when flashed, and review every selection before checkout.
- A full ECU read is not required unless Poverty Built requests one after reviewing the order.
- Flashing software, licenses, cables, and interfaces are separate unless this listing or your order specifically says they are included.
- If your order also includes a cable or other physical hardware, that item ships separately. A shipping label means the package is being prepared; it is not in transit until the carrier receives it.
Configure the car first. Choose the stage second.
This is a platform-developed, naturally aspirated calibration configured for supported M54-powered BMW Z4, X3, and E60 applications using the Siemens MS45 family. The stage is not a parts list and does not tell you which modifications the car must have.
The Tune Configurator selections on this page tell us the engine configuration and requested ECU behavior. Select them to match the car exactly as it will be when the tune is flashed. Once those selections are correct, choose the stage based on the level and driving character you want.
HOW TO ORDER
- Confirm the ECU. The chassis and model year are not enough by themselves. Your ECU identification/read must show the supported MS45.0 or MS45.1 variant.
- Complete every Tune Configurator selection accurately. Select the installed engine size and the requested EWS, SAP, DISA, rev-limiter, idle-speed, O2-sensor, burble/pops, and cable choices. These selections are instructions used to configure the order.
- Choose the stage. The stage determines the level and character of the calibration—not which parts you are required to install.
Example: Headers, an intake, a manifold, or cams do not automatically make the car “Stage 2” or “Stage 3.” A car with common bolt-ons may still choose Stage 1, while a mostly stock car may choose Stage 3. Supporting modifications can improve the result, but they are recommendations—not stage requirements.
If the exact engine or requested configuration is not represented in the Tune Configurator, contact us before ordering instead of selecting the closest answer.
WHAT EACH STAGE MEANS
STAGE 1 — OEM+ | $180
The cleanest and simplest performance calibration. Stage 1 focuses on improved throttle response, optimized fueling, ignition and dual-VANOS behavior, and smooth factory-like drivability. Best for someone who wants the car to feel sharper without an aggressive personality.
Hardware reminder: Stage 1 does not mean “stock parts only.” Your Tune Configurator selections still tell us how the car should be configured.
STAGE 2 — PERFORMANCE | $220
A more assertive naturally aspirated calibration with additional performance optimization and stronger response than Stage 1. The file is configured around the engine and ECU behavior selected in the Tune Configurator.
Headers and an intake are not required to purchase Stage 2. They are common supporting upgrades, not the definition of the stage.
STAGE 3 — MAXIMUM N/A | $280
Our most comprehensive and aggressive naturally aspirated calibration for this platform. Stage 3 provides the highest available level of performance and behavior within Poverty Built’s staged calibration structure.
Cams, headers, manifolds, or other major upgrades are not automatically required. Select the engine and ECU options that match the actual car.
FITMENT
- 2003–2006 BMW E85 Z4 2.5i / 3.0i — M54, MS45
- 2004–2006 BMW E83 X3 2.5i / 3.0i — M54, MS45
- 2003–2005 BMW E60 525i / 530i — M54, MS45
Exact MS45 variant must be confirmed from the ECU read. Similar M54 vehicles may use MS43, MS45.0, or MS45.1 depending on chassis, market, and configuration. This listing does not convert one ECU family into another.
WHAT IS CALIBRATED
Depending on the stage and Tune Configurator selections, the calibration may include:
- Drive-by-wire throttle response
- Part-load and full-load fueling
- Ignition timing
- Dual-VANOS intake and exhaust cam behavior across RPM and load
- Chassis-appropriate MS45 air/load, torque, DISA, and electronic-throttle behavior
- Idle-speed and rev-limiter preferences selected in the Tune Configurator
- Optional top-speed limiter changes where supported
- Optional EWS and supported closed-course/off-road SAP, O2, and diagnostic configurations when selected
- Burble/pops behavior when selected and supported
THE TUNE CONFIGURATOR IS PART OF THE ORDER
- Engine size: Select the engine actually installed. Use a swap choice only when it accurately describes the completed car.
- EWS, SAP, DISA and O2 setup: Select what the car will use when flashed.
- Rev limiter, idle and burbles: Select the behavior you want; do not assume the stage chooses these automatically.
- Flash cable: This is an optional hardware add-on and does not change the stage.
We build the order from the submitted selections. Incorrect choices can produce an incorrect file, so review the entire form before checkout.
BEFORE YOU ORDER
- The vehicle must be mechanically healthy before tuning. A calibration will not repair vacuum leaks, failing sensors, weak fuel delivery, ignition problems, VANOS/DISA faults, overheating, low compression, or other mechanical issues.
- Choose options for the car exactly as it will be driven with this tune.
- Changes made after the file is delivered may require purchasing an updated calibration.
- Power gains vary with engine condition, fuel quality, altitude, weather, and installed hardware.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
- A Poverty Built platform-developed calibration configured around the Tune Configurator selections submitted with the order
- Flashing guidance for the supported MS45.0/MS45.1 process
- Correction of a verified tune-related issue if the delivered file does not match the submitted order
This product uses a proven calibration framework for supported combinations. It does not include one-off calibration development, repeated datalog review, ongoing revisions, or changes for later hardware updates. Builds that need an individualized process should use UNDSPTD. bespoke tuning.
FLASHING REQUIREMENTS
MS45.0 requires an MS45-capable flashing workflow. Use Bimmer Tuning Tools MS45 QuickFlash or the dedicated MS45 Flasher when it matches the delivered file and instructions. The official MS4X Flasher does not list MS45 support. Flashing software and compatible hardware are separate from the tune.
If Poverty Built needs a file read or additional ECU identification for your specific order, we will request it. You do not need to submit a full read unless asked. The customer is responsible for selecting the correct ECU, maintaining stable battery voltage, and using a reliable connection.
CLOSED-COURSE / OFF-ROAD USE
Any option that changes the operation or reporting of emissions-related equipment is intended only for lawful closed-course competition or off-road use. You are responsible for knowing and following all laws that apply to your vehicle and location.
